MREs (Meal, Ready to Eat) are self-contained meal kits of food chock full of vitamins, minerals, and caloric fortitude to keep energy and strength up. All that is required to heat your MRE is a small amount of water. This causes an environmentally friendly chemical reaction inside the pouch, causing the temperature of the water to rise rapidly, heating the food in 12 minutes.

When it comes to emergency ration and supplies meted out by the government, it is sad to say that we should not expect the government to come through for us when we need them. In a flood, the food can also spoil if it is kept in the basement.
